Two Peas in a Pod

Drew and Lauren

I think that Drew and Lauren are happy to be back together again. They were separated for four days from the moment they were born, so I'm sure it was a strange thing to no longer be kicked in the head by the other one and have so much space to move about! It's going to be fun to see them interact with each other as they grow. It's definitely a lot more work having two instead of one, but I don't think we're doing too bad. Ryan just said the other day that a 3rd baby probably would have been a piece of cake! We know this time goes so fast though, so we're trying to enjoy it, even if we don't get a lot of sleep!

We're home!

This past Thursday, Lauren, Drew, and I were able to come home. Lauren had to be in the NICU one extra day so they could check her jaundice levels and make sure she was eating enough, so Drew and I went and slept in her room Wednesday night. Lucas and Reagan were super excited to have the babies home and would have held them all day if we let them. It's a good thing there are two of them, so there won't be any fighting!! This was the first time they met Lauren, because they weren't old enough to go up to the NICU to see her. Now we get to adjust to being a family of six!

Water, Water Everywhere!

When Ryan and I decided to have "one" more baby, I didn't want this one to be born in the winter. Both Lucas and Reagan were born during massive snowstorms and my family wasn't able to make it up to see them right away. I thought we would be all clear this time around. Obviously from the picture above, that's not so. Apparently my children only like to be born during natural disasters and storms! This is a picture of downtown Des Moines where we will be going in the next few days to have our babies. Fortunately, the hospital is in the clear and still has electricity and water. The maternity ward nurse I talked to today said that in 1993, they were without both.....which included air conditioning!! I'm hot with our air conditioning on! Ryan had to evacuate early today on account of the rising water. Let's pray that there's no more rain for a good long while and for all the families affected by this.

48 weeks???

I had another appointment yesterday afternoon. The babies are looking great. Last week at my ultrasound the boy was 5 lb. 10 oz. and the girl was 5 lb. 5 oz. Each week they measure the size of my belly and yesterday the doctor told me I was measuring equivalent to 48 weeks....I'm actually not quite 37! Your size and weeks are supposed to be the same. I'm 11 weeks bigger than I should be and most pregnancies only go 40 weeks. This is what 48 weeks looks like, I guess! Everyone keeps telling me I'm not that big for twins and they were this size with one baby. Hmmmmm.....I'm not so sure about that. The kids thought they needed to show off their bellies, too. We're ready for our two newest additions to be here....at least as ready as we'll ever be! We'll keep you posted.

Happy Birthday, Ryan!

Ryan turned 31 today. It was a pretty laid back day of going to the zoo and wrestling with the kids! We did make him one of his favorite meals of spaghetti and the kids helped me make him an ice cream dessert. Happy Birthday!

A Day at the Zoo

The kids liked watching Rosie the elephant and her baby. Luke said his favorite part of the zoo was watching the zoo keeper clean up the big elephant droppings. That's a boy for 'ya!

Of course, no zoo trip would be complete without riding the train. It was a hot day, but the kids did great and had a fun time.
